AICP CD Courses

The Chapter has purchased copies of the APA Chapter President's Council Study Manual for the 2007-2008 AICP Examination on CD. The CD is available free-of-charge to CCAPA members who are serious candidates.

The official AICP Study Manual/CD-ROM is available for purchase from APA (see http://www.planning.org/certification/examprep.htm).

Library Reference Desk

APA has suggested selected readings to help prepare candidates for the AICP Examination. The following readings from that list are available in a non-circulating folder in the Reference Room of the Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller Street, Meriden (across the street from City Hall):

  • AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
  • Everyday Ethics for Planners
  • Planning Theory for Practitioners
  • The Practice of Local Government Planning (3rd Edition, 2000)
  • Land Use in a Nutshell
  • Redesigning Cities

Ask the reference librarian for the “AICP Exam” materials. Directions and hours for the library can be found at: http://www.cityofmeriden.org/CMS/default.asp?CMS_PageID=313

For more information on recommended reading materials, see: www.planning.org/certification.

AICP Exam Fee Scholarships

The AICP Scholarship Program offers assistance to one individual annually who may defer taking, or is unable to take, the AICP exam because of its high cost. Scholarship recipients pay reduced fees to AICP as follows:

  • First time AICP applicants: $120 (combined $60 application and $60 exam fee)
  • Previously approved AICP applicants: $60 (exam fee only)

Reduced AICP Exam Fee Scholarship Selection Criteria
Scholarship Selection Criteria. To qualify you must submit a written explanation of financial hardship (including financial hardship caused by a budget cutback in a firm or agency):

  • Members of ethnic or racial minorities shall be given preference.
  • The applicant selected will be otherwise unlikely to take the exam without the reduced fee.
  • The applicant's employer will not subsidize the exam fee.

It is ultimately up to the Chapter PDO to decide what constitutes financial hardship (Item #1 merely gives the general framework). Please send your request to John D. Pagini, AICP, Connecticut Chapter, American Planning Association, at pagini@charter.net.

If you have any questions, or would like further information, please do not hesitate to call John Pagini directly at 860.742.7056. Best of luck with your exam preparation.
