Conservation Assistance - Part Time

Part time position in Conservation Dept. for the Town of Greenwich. Assist with implementation of non regulatory conservation programs in priority areas with an emphasis on wildlife management, fisheries management, watershed management and habitat protection programs. Applied Demographer

The Center for Population Research/CT State Data Center, University of Connecticut, seeks applicants for an immediate opening for an Applied Demographer/Database Programmer, UCP 5. Under the direction of the Director of the Center, the demographer will manage the daily activities of the Connecticut State Data Center, as well as provide technical and research project support

Duties include: Coordinate the day-to day activities of the CtSDC including data acquisition, storage and retrieval needs; assist in building and maintaining the center’s data library and in making that library accessible and user friendly to the affiliates of the Center; collect data and prepare reports related to the CtSDC’s affiliation with the Census State Data Center program; develop small area population estimates and projections for the state of Connecticut; process data for inclusion in the data base, based on an understanding of the data and department needs; cleans and formats, or reformats, data to conform to prescribed standards; determines best computer programs and methodology for the needs of the specific request/reports; makes recommendations regarding software and hardware necessary to create accurate reports and databases; prepares reports and databases organized to provide trends, information and data on populations; serves as liaison to the college computer group or the University ITS center to work out data processing needs for the center; serves as a technical resource to the center director and affiliates regarding data systems, improving the data collection/retrieval process ensuring the system is user friendly for all interested in collecting and analyzing the data; consults with users and suppliers of data to clarify requests and/or intended use of data and explain results; confers with supervisor to resolve questions of program intent and output requirements; serves as a resource to the media, students, staff and others on selected matters relating to program activities, policies and procedures; includes outreach activities to promote the center.; may participate in planning and implementing program activities and other projects related to the program objectives; may train others in use of data base, or serve as a consultant regarding data base programming and use, if requested by department to be served; may supervise data entry and other office operations; and performs related duties as required.

Assistant Extension Educator-in-Residence Water Resource Management

The Department of Extension and Connecticut Sea Grant College Program are seeking applications for an Assistant Extension Educator-in-Residence position, which will be located at the Middlesex County Extension Center in Haddam, CT. The successful candidate will develop and conduct Extension outreach education programs for land use decision makers in Connecticut’s communities, with a focus on sustainable water resource management. He/she will be the chief educator and manager of the Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO) program, an award-winning educational program of the Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR) that is a collaboration of the Department of Extension and Connecticut Sea Grant. Topics included in this program include sustainable land use planning approaches to stormwater management, low impact development techniques, and climate change-related water management issues. The Extension educator will be a faculty member in the Department of Extension, and a member of both the CLEAR and Connecticut Sea Grant teams. This position reports to the Head, Department of Extension, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The successful candidate will develop and conduct statewide Extension outreach education programs for Connecticut communities on a wide variety of topics related to community and land use planning. He/she will be a faculty member in the Department of Extension and the lead educator and manager of the Land Use Academy, an educational program of the UConn Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR).
